STATEMENT OF FAITH

Statement of Faith

The Godhead. - We believe in one sovereign, almighty God, existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to whom equal honour is due (Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:18; John 4:24; John 10:30; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

The Scriptures. - We believe that the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are the infallible Word of God, that they are the supreme and final authority of faith and practice.  (The Bible, 2 Timothy 3:16 & 17; 2 Peter 1:21; Psalm 138:2).  We believe that God has providentially preserved his Word down through the centuries. (Psa. 12: 6,7)

Jesus Christ. - We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, was born of a virgin, is true God and true man, and that He is the One and only Saviour of men. (Matthew 1:18; Philippians 2:5-8; Acts 4:12)

Death, Resurrection & Ascension of Christ. - We believe in the vicarious death, the bodily resurrection and the bodily ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ, who now sits at the right hand of God (2 Corinthians 5:21; Acts 1:3, 9; Acts 2:32-36; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, 20; 1 Timothy 3:16.)

Man. - We believe that man was created in the image of God, but because of the sin of Adam, the whole human race fell, and therefore man, apart from Christ, is spiritually dead and lost, and is incapable of any personal effort of merit for salvation.  (Genesis 1:26; Romans 3:19; Romans 5:12; Isaiah 64:6)

Atonement. - We believe in the shed blood of Jesus Christ as the only atonement for sin.  (Romans 3:25; Colossians 1:20; 1 Peter 1:18 & 19; 1 Peter 2:24)

Justification by Faith. - We believe that men are justified only on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ. (Acts 13: 38 & 39; Romans 3:24 & 25; Titus 3:5)

Assurance. - We believe that all true believers everywhere have eternal life as a present possession and can therefore have full assurance of salvation for time and eternity.  (Acts 13:38, 389; Romans 3:24 & 25; Titus 3:5)

Separation from the World. - We believe that all believers are called to a life of separation from all worldly and sinful practices, pleasures and affiliations. (1 John 2:15-17; Romans 12:2; 2 Corinthians 6:14-17; 1 Peter 2:11; 1 Timothy 6:9; 1 Peter 1:14-16)

The Holy Spirit. - We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person of the Godhead, that He is sent by the Lord Jesus Christ from God the Father to convict the world of sin, to regenerate, seal, indwell, guide, teach, anoint and intercede with each believer and to baptise him into the body of Christ. (Joh 15:26; John 16:7; Ephesians 1:13; 1 John 2:20, 27; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Romans 8:27)

The Church. - We believe that the church consists of all those who in this dispensation are truly born again by a living faith, that the church is the body and bride of Christ, and that her mission is to witness for Him to all nations. (Acts 1:8; Acts 4:32 & 33; Ephesians 5:22-32)

The Local Church (The Assembly). -We believe that the local New Testament church is the “house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth” whose ordinances are Biblical Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. (1 Timothy 3:15; Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-33)

The Blessed Hope. - We believe in the personal, premillennial and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; Titus 2:13)

Satan. - We believe in the personality of Satan, that he was judged at the cross and that he will ultimately be cast into the lake of fire, where will be tormented day and night eternally. (Job 1:6 & 7; John 16:11; Revelation 20:10, 15)

Eternal Punishment. - We believe that all who persistently reject Christ in this present life will throughout eternity exist in a stage of conscious and endless torment.  It was for this reason that God sent His Son into the world that it might be saved.  (Revelation 20:15; Matthew 224:46; Mark 9:43, 46, 48; John 3:16 - 18, 36; Jude 7; 2 Peter 3:7)

Judgement of Believers. - We believe that God is a Holy, righteous and loving Father and that He does not overlook the sins of His children.  He will, when His children persistently sin and fail to judge themselves, chasten and scourge them in infinite love in this life (1 Corinthians 11:31; Hebrews 12:6; Revelation 3:19), in order to present them blameless in the presence of His glory (Ephesians 5:26 & 27; Jude 24).  Christians will either receive a reward or suffer the loss of reward (1 Corinthians 3:11-15)

The Present Work of Christ. - We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ as a living Saviour and as our Great High Priest now seated at the right hand of the Father, through the efficacy of His blood, continues to make intercession for His own. (Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 8:1; Hebrews 9:24; Romans 8:34)

The Prayer Life of the Believer. - We believe each believer is called to a life of obedience and prayer, that this is God’s method of providing His children’s needs, of making effective the ministry and witness of His servants for the saving of lost souls at home and abroad, and of maintaining a true, Spirit-filled life and communion with a living God. (Acts 1:14; Acts 4:31-33; Acts 6:4; Romans 15:30; Ephesians 6:18; Philippians 4:6; Colossians 4:2-4; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Jude 20).

Judgement of the World.- We believe that God will judge the world in a coming day by the same Lord Jesus whom men crucified.   Then all men and women will have to give account to God for the things done in the body, but more particular for their attitude towards his Son the Lord Jesus Christ.
